Draft: Team by Team Analysis

say something
a. Any team with Alexander is a scary team as he can go off for 3 TD’s at any time (and he plays the 49ers, Rams and Cardinals twice each).
b. Also getting Gates means he has possibly the #1 player at two different positions.
c. Outside of that, Andre Johnson could be in for a big year in Houston and having the Jones/Barber running combination in Dallas is not a bad thing either.
d. I’m not a big fan of Lloyd or Gado, but they could provide to be serviceable bye week replacements.

shuge knights
a. Thomas Jones looks well on his way to winning the Chicago RB spot, so with him and LDT shoring up the running game, Lance has a scary combo.
b. Moss also looked real good this past weekend and even last year (his down year) he had over 1000 yards and 8 TDs.
c. However, Lance picked 3 guys who are out for the year (C-Mart, K-Rob, and Priest), so he lost out on the chance to draft some guys and will have to scour the waiver wire for his bench.
d. Also, his only QB is the immobile Bledsoe.

the freak
a. With LJ, Dunn, and Foster; right now Tim has the best running back depth in our league.
b. Tim was a bit of a gambler at the WR spot though, betting that Roy Williams, Stallworth and Matt Jones fulfill their vast potential.
c. He also has Culpepper and Plummer at QB, who should be provide for a steady force.

girly men
a. I think Kristel got one of the steals of the draft by nabbing Wayne in the 3rd round.
b. She though was the Marv Levy of our draft; reaching for guys before most boards had them up. We’ll see if the strategy works out (among those picks: James, Bell, Brooks, Betts).
c. Overall, her real strength could end up being her WR as she stuck to picking #1 guys for their teams (Wayne counts because Indy has 1a and 1b).

papa smurf
a. Saurabh bucked the trend by not picking a RB until the 3rd round despite being in position to grab one of the top guys. Definitely the safe route though as Peyton Manning is less likely to get hurt and will always be among the top fantasy QB’s.
b. He also wanted to show his guts for picking people when he wanted by drafting 3 IDP’s in his first 9 picks and collecting quite a stable of top defensive players.
c. His weakness though is that he remarkably only has McGahee at RB. So he will be using 3 WR’s on a weekly basis.

mastication
a. Devo had a computer picked team and I really don’t know what to make of it as he has lots of risk/reward at pretty much every spot.
b. Barber and Droughns are a decent RB combo, but neither is a huge redzone threat.
Boldin, Rod Smith were decent picks when they went, but his real “value” WR picks came in the 13th and 15th rounds with Michael Clayton and Bryant.
c. He’s also relying on oft-injured Bulger at QB.

bentley for probowl
a. I felt lucky to have Stephen Jackson with the 7 pick and Parker in the 3rd, which is why I used my backup RB spots on potential breakout guys Addai and Deangelo.
b. Looking back, I think I reached on the Brees pick and am hoping either he or Kitna is able to utilize the weapons around them.
c. Troupe shows how I was conservative as there were higher ceiling guys still available.
d. I am ecstatic over my IDP guys. Tommy stole Adrian Wilson from me, but I ended up with my top 2 DL and 2 of my top 4 DB. Of course, Peterson sprained his MCL Saturday, so I need to replace him already.

NatiBengals
a. Interesting draft from Patrick as he takes his boy, Chad Johnson in the first round and takes three currently injured RB’s Dom Davis, Jamal Lewis, and Ahman Green.
b. He is set at QB though with Eli and Kurt Warner (funny that they backed each other up just two years ago)
c. Taking a kicker in the 5th is also a little unorthodox, but he definitely has the best kicker in the game (at least fantasy) with Rackers booting all those 50 yarders in the desert.

UMASS Debate Team
a. Alex has to be giddy that despite being #9 in the order he still ended up with Portis and Westbrook as his RB tandem.
b. The main concern he is going to have with his team is keeping healthy as each of his top 4 picks have spent significant time with injuries the past few years (Portis, Westbrook, D-Jax, and Galloway)
c. One of the best picks of the draft could turn out to be his 14th round grab of Anderson as Jamal is hurt again.

Rusty Rockets
a. Joe started out with the makings of an extremely scary team. His first 6 picks are all solid fantasy starters.
b. The problem is, besides Bruce in 13…the computer picks failed to fill his bench with quality backups.

Que Bigote!
a. Chetan is relying a bunch of Duece carrying the load for NO and TO actually playing for Dallas. But if they both fulfill their end, he has a solid team.
b. Givens could wind up being TEN’s top guy (and someone for him to cheer for down there in Nashville)
c. Maroney has looked great in preseason, so maybe he’ll start stepping on Dillon’s toes.

Joe’s Lover
a. He gambled that one of the RB’s would fall to him in the 2nd and it payed off as he got to have the #1 WR and Caddy.
b. He also ended up with a top 3 QB in Hasselbeck and ended the draft grabbing 3 solid contributors for his bench.

Criminals
a. Justin shocked the world grabbing Palmer and his knee brace in the 1st round before anyone has even see him play in a game.
b. He also stuck to drafting “his guys’ as he picked up Housh and ex-bengal Dillon.
c. He also might be playing some 2 TE sets as he was able to pick up both Cooley and Witten with back to back picks.

Kleveland Steamers
a. Tommy saw his spot at the end of the 1st and decided to go with 2 top WR’s rather than bottom of the barrel top tier RB’s.
b. The strategy seemed to pay off as he was able to get Chester Taylor, Gore, Mike Bell, and Rhodes as his RB core all of whom are current starters.
c. His only real weakness could be QB as McNair has to play behind that Baltimore o-line.

Whoa...that whole Stallworth to the Eagles sure throws a monkey wrench into things.

So much for my hopes of Reggie Brown being a sleeper #2 WR fantasy-wise.
